How to Uninstall Microsoft Edge/Internet Explorer from Windows 10/8.1/8/7

There is a big chance that you are not using Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer right now. Since only around 3.37% people use Microsoft Edge as of May 2021 and Majority of people (64.75%) use Google Chrome as their browser.(source)

There is several ways to remove or uninstall Microsoft Edge/Internet Explorer.

The method also differs between operating system. You can continue reading or watch this video where I uninstall Internet Explorer from Windows 8.1. This method will also work on Windows 7 or Windows 8 or Windows 10

.

Method 1: Uninstalling Internet Explorer from Windows 7/8/8.1/10

1. Go to Control Panel and then search for 'Programs and Features' or 'Programs'
2. After that, click 'Turn Windows Features on or off' (Administration permission required)

3. Uncheck the 'Internet Explorer' box as shown:

5. Restart your device to see the changes

Method 2: Uninstalling Microsoft Edge from Windows 10

In method 1 I showed you how to "uninstall" Internet Explorer from Windows 10/8/8.1/7. If you have Microsoft Edge instead, you may follow this method.

1. Open Windows 10 Setting (not Control Panel)
2. Go to Apps and Features
3. Search for Edge and click 'Uninstall'
If this method does not work. Try Method 1 instead. I personally haven't tried the Method 1 to uninstall Microsoft Edge but it's worth trying. Or you can skip to Method 3

Method 3: Uninstalling Microsoft Edge from Windows 10 using Command Prompt

1. Open the Start Menu
2. Search 'Command Prompt'
3. Open as Administrator
4. Type the following command to access the following path:
cd %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Microsoft\Edge\Application\8*\Installer

Note: Change the number 8 to your Microsoft Edge version. Only change the to the first number of the version eg. 9x.x.xxx.xx and the * is a wildcard so let it be.

5. Type the following command to uninstall Microsoft Edge:
setup --uninstall --force-uninstall --system-level

After you complete the steps, Microsoft Edge will be removed from the device, and the legacy version of the browser will be reinstated on Windows 10.
