Should I Upgrade to Windows 11 (No, if...)

Windows 11 is the latest Windows operating system made by Microsoft. It is released in October 2021. While it is tempting to upgrade to windows 11 since it's free and easy to upgrade it from Windows 10, it's not worth it.

Yes, Windows 11 comes with a wide range of new feature and design changes it still have a major problem especially if your computer has a low-end specs and hardware. Beside the claim that it has a "Performance Improvements" it still uses more RAM and CPU than it's older brother, Windows 10. This bring us to the first reason why upgrading to Windows 11 is not worth it.

1. It demands more RAM and CPU usage

While this isn't a problem for high-end devices with high specs this still means that more RAM and CPU power will be used by the operating system itself which is Windows 11. This also means if you are playing a game or running a power hungry software or program it may reduce it's performance.

This is also a big deal for gamers. Most games needs a lot of computational power and RAM but there will be less RAM and CPU power available since it is already used by the operating system itself which is windows 11.

A lot of Windows 11 user who upgraded from Windows 10 experienced a significant increase in RAM usage in idle condition. It uses about 10% more RAM than in Windows 10 ^. Please keep in mind that we are comparing the 64 bit version with the 64 bit version for a fair comparison.

Not only that, Windows 10 beats Windows 11 in almost every performance benchmarks ^.

2. You may need to upgrade your CPU

As some of you may already know that Windows 11 only support 64 bit (x64) CPU and won't support 32 bit (x86) CPU. This is actually a very reasonable decision from Microsoft since most CPU in the market today is already 64 bit compatible.

But if your CPU only accept 32 bit system then it is impossible to upgrade to Windows 11 with your current CPU.

3. It requires internet connection and a Microsoft account

Now this is what really disappoint me. Windows 11 needs an internet connectivity to login. Maybe you're thinking that it is not a big problem because there is Wi-Fi connection at home, well what if you're not home? Even though there is mobile hotspot in almost every smartphone it is still not convenient to turn it on every time you wanted to use your laptop

Turns out you only need to sign in to your Microsoft Account on setup and not EVERY time you turn your computer on. And then you can create a local account. Also this requirement is only for Windows 11 Home

Well, should you upgrade to Windows 11? It depends. If your computer's specs is considered high you should upgrade to Windows 11. Some reviewers said that Windows 11 is way faster than Windows 10 because it can manage memory better ^ but in my opinion if you are running Windows 10 and it lags don't upgrade to Windows 11. It will probably makes it worse.
